Foz Côa Douro Trail Adventure® (FCDTA) is organized by Carlos Sá Nature Events, with the support of the Municipal Chamber of Vila Nova de Foz Côa. The event will be held in two different dates:
- Foz Côa Douro Trail Adventure 5 Days/5 Stages: from 13th to 17th October 2018;
- Foz Côa Dourto Trail Adventure 8 Days/8 Stages: from 13th to 20th October 2018.
In both cases, 8 or 5 days, there will be a STARTER version, where participants can run a shorter distance in most of the stages.
In the last day of FCDTA 8 Days, on the 20th March, a solidarity race will be held – Foz Côa Solidarity – with the distance of 21 km. It will be a one-day race and it will be open to the general public. Part of the money raised from registrations will be donated to the solidarity institution Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Foz Côa.
The points of interest pass through the magnificent landscapes of mountains and terraced valleys, ripped by the rivers Douro and Côa, through the agricultural fields with vineyards (of the best wines in the World), almond trees in blossom and olive trees. The disused railway line of Tua and Pocinho, the footpaths in the Douro River, starting in the quay of Pocinho, the Côa Museum (the largest collection of rock art in the world), the historical villages of Castelo Rodrigo and Marialva, the villages of Foz Côa , Castelo Melhor, Castelo de Numão, Muxagata, as well as Longroiva (in the municipality of Meda) and Pinhão, many viewpoints and the city of Porto, are some of the most important places in the region.
The gastronomic tourism, with delicacies and ingredients of the region, as well as the art, the culture and the modern Côa Museum, has led to the conditioning of the region as a World Heritage Site in 1998. On boat trips in the Douro River, departing from the quay of Pocinho to Barca d'Alva (in the boat Senhora da Veiga, owned by the Municipal Chamber of Vila Nova de Foz Côa), we can observe the escarpments and the terraces of the vineyards of the Alto Douro Vinhateiro, also a World Heritage Site, which embellish the river banks, making Vila Nova de Foz Côa the "Capital of Almond Trees in Flower”.
There's no time limit for each stage. However the organization reserves the right to create new time barriers at any time during the event, for safety reasons.
There will be also an accompanying-persons program for the families and friends who want to make this unique trip with their athletes!
