This fantastic adventure was held from 5th to 11th October, gathering in this edition about 80 athletes with 12 nationalities, representing countries such as Singapore, Switzerland, Brazil, Netherlands, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Spain, Israel, Belgium, Hungary and Portugal, spread over 3 continents. The event is organized by Carlos Sá Nature Events and by the Vila Nova de Foz Côa Municipality, with the support of several sponsors and other municipalities in the Douro region such as: Lamego, Torre de Moncorvo, São João da Pesqueira, Pinhel, Meda, Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo. The Pocinho’s High Performance Center was the logistics base for the event.

Throughout the week the athletes ran across the Alto Douro Wine region, longer or shorter distances, as they have choosen the Advanced or Starter version respectively.

The event was designed so that the participants could enjoy the landscapes of one of the most beautiful and emblematic regions of Portugal - the Alto Douro Wine Region, doubly recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, both by the vineyards and the rock engravings existing in the region. The organization also aims to present to the participants some of the region history, culture and gastronomy, complementing every race day with a cultural moment and a tasting of typical flavors.

The event started with a non-competitive stage on Saturday, October 5th, in the Historic Area of Porto. In this stage, the participants, guided by their host Carlos Sá, were able to appreciate the city’s picturesque streets and monuments and to experience the city’s energy that characterize it so well nowadays. Porto was recognized by UNESCO in 1996 as a Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Over the week, the participants were able to challenge themselves along the Douro Valley trails, alternating longer and more technical stages with shorter and less harsh ones, in a journey that also took them through the remote history of Portugal, transported them through landscapes and the region flavours and made them experience the hospitality of the Portuguese people.

The event ended on October 11th with a stage that began at the charismatic Côa Museum and ended in the center of Vila Nova de Foz Côa.
